Former President Donald Trump called General Mark Milley, chairman of the Join Chiefs of Staff, a “dumb” at a Turning Point Action reception in Mar-a-Lago, Florida last weekend. I was standing next to him when he said it.
In fact, he used a more colorful style term before saying “idiot”. His language is not for everyone, but he was 100% right.
In the anecdote Trump recounted, Milley advocated simply leaving the U.S. equipment in Afghanistan, allowing the Taliban to take it and use it. The general’s suggestion fitted a 20-year model of incompetence and failure in the Middle East, ranging from George W. Bush to Barack Obama and his disastrous Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Under their leadership Iraq was invaded on misinformation, Libya and Syria descended into chaos, and the American public has repeatedly been lead into error on the war in Afghanistan.
Trump understandably thought Milley’s idea of leaving material behind was ludicrous. He did not know at the time that General Milley’s bad ideas went far beyond the battlefield.
In June of this year, the “television general” defended the study of critical race theory during testimony in Congress.
“On the issue of critical race theory etc, a lot of us have to get a lot smarter regardless of the theory. But I think it’s important, in fact, that those of us do. uniform have an open mind and are widely read, “Milley noted. “I want to understand white rage, and I’m white.”
Barely three months later, the country learned that Milley had kept it a secret Phone calls to Chinese officials in the last days of the Trump administration and defended Black Lives Matter during the riots last summer, at one point would have telling Trump’s senior adviser to “shut up” when he criticized the riots.
But General Milley is far from unique among our military leaders.
Our military has spent far too much time rooting out imaginary “extremism” and “racism” from its ranks. Such “extremism” is apparently so rare that the Defense Ministry has had to cash the very definition of the word to find it. And while it wasn’t already clear who they were targeting, the DOD’s senior adviser tasked with countering alleged extremism think Trump voters are a bunch of racists.
Much like our public schools, the education of our enlisted men and women is quickly becoming a laughing stock. Marine recommended Ibram X Kendi How to be an anti-racist sailors, while West Point teaches a course on “The Politics of Race, Gender, Class and Sexuality”.
And in a truly disturbing trend, military institutions are starting to get involved in public feuds with civilians who criticize them.
In March, the soldiers of the National Guard walked at Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office after mistakenly calling Guam another country. That same month, an official Marine Twitter account attack Fox News host Tucker Carlson on his comments on women in the military.
Since Joe Biden took office, all of this hard work by our TV generals has apparently taken priority over preventing the disastrous and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan. All our adversaries have understood the Afghan debacle as a sign of weakness. It’s no surprise that China is increasingly bold, licking its chops in Taiwan. Meanwhile, our militant army seems more focused on beating the drums of war for the conflict in Ukraine, a country where America’s political elites conveniently raise money from. shady offers.
Americans can smell it too. Confidence in the military has been declining since Biden took office. According to a report, only 45 percent of Americans have “a lot of confidence” in our military, down 11 percent from February. It is awful, but it is an expected consequence of a politicized and awakened army.
Meanwhile, Democrats in Congress apparently believe the military’s problem is that it isn’t awake enough. They rush to Things racial theory even more critical in the defense budget.
What our military really needs is to ditch critical race theory, wake up TV generals, and hunt ridiculous witches at “extremists” who only target conservatives who speak out against awakened nonsense. It would require the kind of civilian oversight that only comes from Congress and the President. If the Republican Party takes the House in 2022, reforming the military and banning dangerous ideologies like Critical Race Theory must be a top priority.
Additionally, if 2024 issues us a Republican President, then personnel and personnel decisions in institutions such as the Department of Defense, the Department of State, and the Department of Homeland Security will be of the utmost importance.
For the sake of our security and that of the world, the US military must be a deadly force capable of winning any war it may face. We have to be so strong that no one would even try to attack us in the first place.
But our army does not live up to this standard. U.S. Marines participating in war games have show that they could be routed through the UK. And there is a very real scenario where the United States could to lose a war with China in the Pacific. This is what the military needs to focus on, not pronouns and critical race theory.
The federal government’s most important job is national defense, and we cannot afford to lose the greatest military force the world has ever seen through enlightenment and stupidity. Our army must get back to the business of being able to win real wars, not culture wars.
