An illegal immigrant from Guatemala living in Florida killed a 5-year-old girl after the drunk driver without a license crashed into her mother’s car and then drove off to drink more beers, police said.

Ernesto Lopez Morales, 32, was speeding in a black 2005 Chevrolet Suburban with its headlights off around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Mulberry when he slammed into the back of a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Elantra was pushed more than 600 feet before skidding to a stop. The 5-year-old girl who was seated in the back seat died from the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, while the woman was taken to hospital with injuries not involving not his life in danger.

Morales left his car and fled the scene on foot, witnesses told police, and ran to the house where he was staying about 30 miles east of Tampa. When authorities found him there, he told them he had drunk six 32-ounce cans of beer and left to buy more.

His blood alcohol level was 0.108, above the Florida legal limit of 0.08, when measured hours after the crash at the police station, officials said.

Neither the mother nor the daughter have been identified by the police.

Morales did not have a driver’s license in Florida, or in any other state.

“He also told deputies that he left the accident because he had no insurance or driver’s license,” Judd said. “He flees the scene and leaves the five-year-old child and would have left the mother for dead.”

He was charged with driving under the influence, manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and property damage DUI, and is being held on $22,500 bond, according to prison records. of Polk County.

According to FOX News, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him.

“This is the second person in about a week who has been killed by someone illegally in this country,” Judd said. ‘It is a problem.’
