The telecommunications industry is next in the rate hike saga, after the oil industry. With effect from December 1, Airtel, Jio and Vodafone have announced that they will increase their call charges.

The pandemic has forced telecommunications operators to wait almost two years to implement a significant tariff increase. The last major tariff increase took place in December 2019, when the three telecom operators increased their overall tariffs in all areas.

After a two-year wait, Airtel announced a 20-25% increase in all of its prepaid plans. A day later, Vodafone Idea also increased its prepaid rates.

On Sunday, the third major in telecommunications, Jio, announced a 20% increase in its tariffs.
